We recently were honored to have International Speaker Jill Briscoe speak here at the Sheboygan Yacht Club. A child of WWII, Jill's immigration from England with husband Stuart back in the 1970's, was a challenge for any mom of 4. Stuart and Jill grew what we know as Elmbrook Church today.

One of the reasons why Jill is in such high demand as a speaker, is she offers hope in the midst of the dark spaces in life. Speaking to parents, grandparents and friends of those going through divorce, she offered a new hope and a challenge to love and serve with the best of our abilities, those who are in the middle of difficult marital circumstances.

Knowing that family relationships and traditions with children or grandchildren will change in the midst of marital difficulty or divorce, Jill continued to directly and respectfully share the level of pain that can be felt by extended family members. She gently reminded us not to judge. Not to gossip. To discern carefully our speech with in the presence of the family, and in other circles. Ask yourself, "Is this person asking questions of my son or daughter's marriage because they "need to know?" or they "want to know?"

Your positive influence, as the parent or grandparent of adult children going through divorce or marital difficulty, can also positively impact and teach your grandchildren the importance of love that can endure all things and can be a sense of the "familiar" in the midst of change.
